The Vancouver career bind

High costs. Fierce competition. Something has to change.

01

The golden handcuffs are real here

The salary keeps you. The mortgage keeps you. But the work is draining you in one of the world’s most expensive cities. You can’t just quit — but you can’t keep going like this either.

02

Vancouver’s market doesn’t reward average

Tech, film, resources, sustainability — Vancouver runs on relationships and reputation. If your search isn’t breaking through, the approach needs to change, not your ambition.

03

Vancouver sets a high bar. Your career should too.

Mountains, ocean, world-class neighbourhoods — this city reminds you daily what a good life looks like. When your work actively conflicts with that standard, the gap is impossible to ignore.

Once you become your own authority — you can navigate any transition, in any market.

Linda Faucheux, MA, LPC

(pronounced Fō-sháy, long ‘a’)

Linda began as a psychotherapist before discovering that her greatest impact came from building on strength, not fixing weakness. That shift led her into career coaching — and eventually to Careers by Design, where she has been working with BC professionals for nearly a decade.

What surprises clients is that they arrive expecting to fix their weaknesses. What actually moves you forward is discovering your signature strengths and letting those lead. Your limitations don’t define your ceiling — your strengths do.

She knows Vancouver’s market specifically — tech, film, creative industries, resource economy transitions — because she has spent years working with professionals navigating each of them. All sessions are delivered by video call. Connect with Linda on LinkedIn →

How we work

No frameworks filed away. Just coaching built for this market.

01

Surface your signature strengths

Most clients arrive expecting to fix what’s broken. The real work is identifying what you do exceptionally well and building the next chapter around that.

02

Map your place in Vancouver’s market

Tech, film, sustainability, professional services — we identify where your strengths create the most leverage in this specific market.

03

Move forward with a real plan

Every session ends with concrete next steps. We stay with you through the search, the pivots, and the decisions.

The benchmark Linda works toward

When 70% of what you do in a given day draws on your natural strengths — things you’re wired for, that give you energy, that make time disappear — work stops conflicting with the life you built in Vancouver. Most people settle for far less because they’ve never clearly mapped their strengths to the right role. That’s precisely what Linda does.

Common questions about career coaching in Vancouver

Answers to what most people want to know before booking a call.

Career coaching in Vancouver typically ranges from $150 to $400 per session. At Careers by Design we always start with a free intro call so you understand what is involved before committing to anything.
Yes. Vancouver’s tech sector has its own hiring dynamics — relationship-driven, reputation-conscious, and increasingly competitive since the post-pandemic slowdown. We work with professionals transitioning into and within tech, identifying the strengths that translate to the roles they’re targeting.
All sessions with Linda are delivered by video call, equally accessible from Gastown, Yaletown, North Shore, Surrey, or anywhere across Metro Vancouver and BC. Most clients find virtual sessions easier to fit around a busy schedule.
Most clients feel genuine clarity within the first two or three sessions. A focused job search program typically runs 4 to 7 sessions. Career transition work that includes deeper direction-finding runs 7 to 12 sessions. We build a specific plan on the free intro call.
The return on a move into a better-fitting role in Vancouver — whether in salary, career longevity, or quality of daily life — typically far exceeds the cost of coaching. Most clients describe it as the most valuable professional investment they’ve made. We start with a free intro call so you can make that call for yourself.
General career coaching is not typically covered. However Careers by Design also offers sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) for clients whose situation involves deeper career-related stress, burnout, or identity questions. RP sessions are often covered under EAP and extended health plans including Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife, Green Shield, and Blue Cross.
